I've been writing production code for about 18 years, mostly in Go, Java, Scala, and Kotlin. The systems I work on typically involve Kafka, PostgreSQL, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Kubernetes). I care about clean APIs, decent observability, and code other people can maintain.
Most of my experience is in fintech, e-commerce, and data-intensive applications. I've worked with product teams, finance teams, and ops; the work usually involves making billing, compliance, or data flows more reliable.
Most of my work now involves AI. Agents do a lot of the typing: scaffolding, migrations, test coverage. I spend my time on architecture, review, and the failure modes they don't catch. It's faster, but only because I still read everything before it ships.
I also help teams set this up in their own repos and ship AI features that hold up under traffic. An agent writing good code in your codebase is a different problem from writing good code in general. It comes down to context, review, and knowing what to fence off.
